The nodal axis
Rahu and Ketu aren’t planets — they’re the two points where the Moon’s orbit crosses the Sun’s path. They always sit exactly opposite each other and travel retrograde, changing signs together about once every eighteen months. That shift is Rahu-Ketu Peyarchi.
Read them as one axis: Rahu inflames the house it transits with desire, ambition and hunger; Ketu, opposite, empties its house out — detachment, dissolution, a spiritual or restless pull. What you reach for, and what quietly loosens its grip.
Where Rahu does well
- Favourable (upachaya) — Rahu in the 3rd, 6th, 10th, or 11th from your Moon, where ambition and struggle convert into growth. The 11th is the most productive.
- Unsettling — Rahu in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 8th, 9th, or 12th tends to magnify desire in ways that ask for care and awareness.
How it’s calculated
The calculator finds your natal Moon sign, then computes the nodes’ real positions todayand counts Rahu’s house from your Moon; Ketu sits seven houses away, always opposite. Because it uses the actual current longitudes, both transit signs are exact.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Rahu-Ketu transit (Rahu-Ketu Peyarchi)?
Rahu and Ketu are the lunar nodes — the two points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's. They always sit exactly opposite each other and move retrograde, changing signs together roughly every 18 months. That change is Rahu-Ketu Peyarchi, and it shifts the axis of desire and release in your life, read from your natal Moon sign.
How is the Rahu-Ketu transit calculated?
Find your natal Moon sign, then count which house Rahu's current sign falls in from that Moon — Ketu is always exactly seven houses away, opposite Rahu. This calculator computes the nodes' real current positions, so both transit signs are exact.
What do Rahu and Ketu do in a transit?
Classically, Rahu amplifies and inflames the house it transits — desire, ambition, obsession, and unconventional pulls concentrate there. Ketu, opposite, tends to dissolve and detach from its house — a sense of emptying, spiritual pull, or quiet dissatisfaction. Together they form one axis: what you're pulled toward and what you're asked to release.
Which Rahu transits are considered favourable?
Rahu is classically stronger in the upachaya houses — the 3rd, 6th, 10th, and 11th from your Moon — where struggle and ambition turn into growth. Its 11th-house transit (gains) is regarded as especially productive. Elsewhere the nodal transit tends to be more unsettling. These are tendencies, not verdicts.
Is this the same as Rahu-Ketu Peyarchi?
Yes. 'Rahu-Ketu Peyarchi' is the Tamil term for the nodes changing signs — 'peyarchi' means the change of sign. The calculation and meaning are identical to the Rahu-Ketu transit read from your Moon sign.
