Jupiter in Vedic Astrology
In Vedic astrology (Jyotish) Jupiter, or Guru, is the natural significator of wisdom and meaning: the capacity to find coherence, to counsel, to teach, and to expand what a life is built on. It stands for higher learning, dharma or guiding principle, and generosity, and traditionally for children and for good fortune. Where Mercury sorts and connects, Jupiter widens and gives things their sense of meaning.
But Jupiter is never read from its house or sign alone. Its expression depends on the sign it occupies (which sets its dignity, from exalted in Cancer to debilitated in Capricorn, with its own signs of Sagittarius and Pisces), the houses it rules for your rising sign, its overall strength, and the aspects it receives. A natural benefic can still be functionally mixed depending on the houses it rules, which is why the same Jupiter can read as steady judgment in one chart and as overreach in another.
