Saturn in Vedic Astrology
In Vedic astrology (Jyotish) Saturn, or Shani, is the natural significator of structure and time: the capacity to accept limits, to endure, to do the slow work, and to face the consequences of what has been built. It stands for discipline, boundaries, and durability, and traditionally for labour, longevity, and what is earned rather than given. Where Jupiter widens and reassures, Saturn narrows and tests what will actually last.
But Saturn is never read from its house or sign alone. Its expression depends on the sign it occupies (which sets its dignity, from exalted in Libra to debilitated in Aries, with its own signs of Capricorn and Aquarius), the houses it rules for your rising sign, its overall strength, and the aspects it receives. A natural malefic can still do constructive work depending on the houses it rules, which is why the same Saturn can read as patient mastery in one chart and as heavy constraint in another.
