The Sun in Vedic Astrology
In Vedic astrology (Jyotish) the Sun, or Surya, is the natural significator of the self: your identity, vitality, confidence, authority, and the drive to be recognised for genuine purpose. It also stands for the father, government, and positions of leadership. Where the Sun sits in a chart shows where you seek to be seen and take visible ownership of your life.
But the Sun is never read from its house or sign alone. Its expression depends on the sign it occupies (which sets its dignity, from exalted in Aries to debilitated in Libra), the houses it rules for your rising sign, its overall strength, and the aspects it receives. This is why two people with the Sun in the same place can experience it very differently.
